In New
Jersey, 33,623 people were living with HIV at the end of 2006, according
to the most recent report by the state Department of Health and Senior
Services.Since the beginning of HIV surveillance, Passaic County has
ranked #3 in New Jersey for persons living with HIV/AIDS. The City of
Paterson represents approximately 69% of all persons living with
HIV/AIDS in Passaic County. In 2007, in Passaic County alone, there were
3,989 cases of AIDS and an additional 1,415 people diagnosed as HIV+.
CAPCO provides counseling, support groups, housing assistance,
transportation assistance, assistance with medication, and outreach to
youth and people throughout Passaic County on prevention of HIV/AIDS and
sexually-transmitted diseases. CAPCO is considered the information hub
for HIV/AIDS in Bergen and Passaic Counties.
