Description
The Florida
Commission on Human Relations investigates complaints of discrimination
in employment, housing, public accommodations, human trafficking,
Whistleblower violations and anyone HIV+ experiencing discrimination in
the areas of employment and housing.
The commission counsels
individuals, municipalities, and businesses but does not investigate
federal agencies.
Employment complaints must be filed within 365 days of
the date in which the alleged act of discrimination occurred.
Housing
complaints must be filed within 1 year of alleged act.
Complaints filed
with the EEOC (federal agency) must be filed within 300 days of the
alleged act in order to meet EEOC timeliness guidelines.
Should that
deadline be past, complaint can still be filed with the Florida
Commission on Human Relations within the years deadline.
The Commission
is comprised of 12 members appointed by the Governor for a 4-year
term.
