The Rural Communities Resource Center was founded in 1983 by a group of young women with small children who were isolated from each other and from human and supportive services.

The mission statement is:

• The Rural Communities Resource Center is a grassroots nonprofit organization in Northeast Colorado.
• The Resource Center provides education, advocacy, support to create systems change and develop programs that promote the physical, emotional, and economic health of our community.
• The goal is economic self-sufficiency and self-determination for residents in Northeast Colorado.
