City Community Development -Tenant Based Rental

Days/Hours: Mon - Fri 8:00am - 5:00pm Description: Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) provides assistance to the elderly citizens of the City of Laredo with their rental payments; qualifying residents are required to pay 30% of their rent, which includes utility expenses for water and electricity. The City will assist the applicant with the remainder of the rent balance. Rental assistance is provided only at units within the downtown area which have been approved by the Department of Community Development. Citizens are place on a waiting list to participate with TBRA program, which is established on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Department of Community Development s HOME Program office. Under the City s TBRA Program, persons who are elderly are considered to be 60 years of age or older. Prospective elderly residents must not exceed the 60% of AMFI (as established by HUD income limits). Participants will go through an annual re-certification at least once a year to ensure qualification of their income status. Eligibility: Must be U.S citizen or legal resident alien; at least 60 years of age, income must not exceed 60% of the area s median income (as determined by HUD income limits), must have resided within the City of Laredo city limits for the last 6 months. Rental assistance is provided at units within the downtown area. *Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program* On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009,which ludes $1.5 billion for a Homelessness Prevention Fund. Funding for this program, called the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP), is being distributed based on the formula used for the Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) program. Grantees may provide rental assistance or services to eligible program participants who are residing or would like to reside outside their jurisdiction.
