Housing and economic opportunities, inc. (HEO) is a 501(c) (3) Nonprofit Corporation, founded in June of 1992. HEO is dedicated to helping low and moderate income families and or individuals find affordable housing and appropriate employment. It is their belief that affordable housing development and economic development go hand in hand. They believe that helping someone find a place to live, while very important, by itself, is not enough. They must help that person find employment that will allow them to support themselves and their families, maintain their homes, and live with dignity. They purchase and rehabilitate foreclosed and abandoned homes and then market those homes to low and moderate income families at an affordable price or rent. They form partnerships with other non profit and for profit organizations to construct new low and moderate income senior rental projects. They offer home owner education programs, long-term credit/budget counseling and home maintenance/repair education, down payment and closing cost grants and individual development accounts, all of which foster responsible home ownership. They teach employment and entrepreneurial skills to help families and individuals improve their life styles.
